Our Laboratory

Precise diagnosis for
accurate clinical decisions

The Pathology and Cytopathology Laboratory at La Bene San Luis provides its service through Laboratorios ONCOPAT, a specialized institution with the most advanced techniques in histological, cytological, and molecular biology analysis.

Each pathology report is endorsed by the three collaborating pathologists at the laboratory, guaranteeing a rigorous review process and a reliable diagnostic conclusion that the attending physician can use as a solid basis for the treatment plan.

In addition to routine studies, the laboratory offers access to second opinion consultation with national and international experts, essential in complex or uncommon cases that require additional specialized judgment.

What do we analyze?

Biopsy and Histopathology

Microscopic analysis of tissues obtained by biopsy to determine the benign or malignant nature of a lesion and guide the definitive diagnosis.

  • Incisional and excisional biopsies
  • Complete surgical specimens
  • Image-guided biopsies
  • Intraoperative study (frozen section)

Exfoliative Cytology

Study of cells shed from epithelial surfaces for early detection of premalignant and malignant lesions in the cervix, respiratory tract, and other organs.

  • Papanicolaou (cervico-vaginal)
  • Liquid-based cytology
  • Sputum cytology
  • Urinary cytology

Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA)

Minimally invasive procedure to obtain cellular material from palpable or image-guided masses, with rapid results and high diagnostic precision.

  • In-house aspiration clinic
  • Thyroid, breast, and lymph nodes
  • Support for interventional imaging
  • Immediate material evaluation

Immunohistochemistry (IHC)

Technique using specific antibodies to identify antigens in tissues, essential for molecular classification of tumors and selection of oncological treatment.

  • Cell proliferation markers
  • Hormone receptors (breast)
  • Lymphoma classification
  • Prognostic and predictive markers

In Situ Hybridization (ISH / FISH)

Molecular biology technique that detects specific DNA or RNA sequences in tissues, for the identification of genetic alterations with diagnostic and therapeutic implications.

  • HER2/neu in breast cancer
  • Translocations in lymphomas
  • HPV detection in tissue
  • Gene fusions in sarcomas

Fetal and Perinatal Study

Anatomopathological analysis of the fetus and placenta in cases of fetal death, malformations, or pregnancy loss, to guide the etiological diagnosis and family counseling.

  • Complete perinatal autopsy
  • Anatomopathological study of the placenta
  • Analysis of congenital malformations
  • Report for genetic counseling

The academic connection between the laboratory and the hospital allows continuous feedback that elevates diagnostic quality and the professional development of the medical team.

Report endorsed by 3 pathologists

Each diagnosis is reviewed by all three collaborating pathologists before being issued, minimizing interobserver variability.

National and international second opinion

For complex cases, the laboratory coordinates consultation with recognized experts in Mexico and abroad, ensuring the best possible diagnosis.

Joint in-hospital sessions

Periodic clinico-pathological sessions held with the hospital's medical teams for case discussion and diagnostic updates.
